The New Forest Remembers WWII App has been designed to be your mobile gateway to the wealth of information about the New Forest during the Second World War held on the project’s Interactive Portal, an online digital archive.

The New Forest Remembers: untold stories of WWII project started in 2012. Its aims were to record all the archaeology, history and living memories of the Forest during the war years and to make this information publicly available online.

The archive contains archaeological survey data (captured through field survey and analysis of period aerial photographs), historic documents (some Top Secret at the time), period and modern photographs, oral history accounts and access to online archive film footage.

The archive is interactive and you can register on the website and via this App to add comments to already posted material or add your own or family memories and recollections of time spent in the Forest during the war years.

While out exploring the Forest the New Forest WWII App will help you find site information about the history just under your feet. You can use it to plan a route or discover the story behind a bit of concrete, pill box or large mound. Use the ‘Near Me’ icon on the map to find out what’s on your doorstep or just around the corner. Register on the New Forest WWII App to keep a list of your favourites and to be able to send in your discoveries.

Please respect and care for the New Forest. Visit www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/carefor to find out how.

The New Forest Remembers: untold stories of WWII project concluded in 2014.
